Supervision of the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office in the sphere of international legal cooperation

One of the main functions of the prosecutor's office is to interact with the competent authorities of foreign states and supervise over the application of laws in the field of international legal cooperation.

These functions are implemented by the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office in accordance with the Constitution, international treaties, the Code of Criminal Procedure and the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The priority direction of supervision is the provision of legal assistance in criminal matters, extradition, the implementation of criminal prosecution.

Within the framework of implementation of these functions, from 2013 to 2017, the Main Transport Prosecutor's Office examined over 300 requests for international legal assistance, extradition, and criminal prosecution.

The Main Transport Prosecutor's Office, in order to implement the principle of the inevitability of punishment against foreign citizens who committed crimes in Kazakhstan and fled in their homeland, 9 criminal cases were sent to Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkey and Azerbaijan.

These criminal cases are initiated for crimes related to drug trafficking, economic contraband, theft and fraud.

This issue is analyzed by the transport prosecutors on an ongoing basis, other criminal cases of previous years are interrupted, terminated in connection with the search of the accused, for further forwarding them in the order of Article 596 of the Criminal Procedure Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan to foreign countries.
